Shortened Swing Reps
Use a shorter bat or choke up 2 inches on your regular bat. Take swings on a tee or soft toss focusing on a compact, shortened swing path — no big load, minimal stride, hands inside the ball. The goal is to make consistent barrel contact with a swing that's quick and controllable — your two-strike emergency swing. Do 3 sets of 15 reps, tracking quality of contact.
Two-Strike Vision Training
Stand in the batter's box (no swings!) and track pitches from a live pitcher or machine. Call out 'STRIKE' or 'BALL' the instant the pitch crosses the plate. This trains your eyes to recognize the zone under pressure — crucial when you can't afford to chase with two strikes. Progress to tracking spin type (fastball, curve, slider) as you get better.
Two-Strike Battling Drill
Live BP or machine drill where the hitter starts every count at 0-2. The goal: put the ball in play, foul off tough pitches, and avoid the punch-out. Track how many at-bats end in contact (not strikeouts). Focus on a shorter, compact swing — choke up if needed — and protect the plate with two strikes. Work on recognizing pitches that are close to the zone vs. clearly out of the zone.
